County Show Shenanigans

County Show Shenanigans

Attending summer fayres and shows is definitely one of our favourite duties that falls in the role of Dog School coaches, and the Leicestershire County Show proved to be a particular highlight.

With it being bank holiday weekend we were expecting clouds and rain but Mother Nature had a surprise in store for us and the sun had its hat on all weekend!

Our stand was located right next to the main show ring and there were plenty of activities taking place to keep us entertained when we weren’t busy chatting to people. From various horse riding demonstrations to BMX stunt shows there was something for everyone!

But of course we weren’t there to just enjoy ourselves, we also had the difficult task of greeting, cuddling and playing with the large stream of dogs that came over to our stand to find out more about Dog School. It’s a hard job but I guess someone has got to do it!

Puppies and adults alike enjoyed our ‘Find A Treat’ game in the ball pit as well testing their recall skills in our temptation alley competition. Our homemade snuffle mats appeared to be the biggest temptation with several individuals picking them up and trying to make off with them like they were doing the doggy dash!

But our pooch paddling pool was definitely the biggest hit. With the temperatures soaring we had a long line of dogs queuing up to enjoy a refreshing and cool wallow in the water! Clearly they were all enjoying themselves as much as we were!

One of the best parts of the weekend was getting to chat to so many wonderful dog owners and find out more about their gorgeous canine companions. It was great to hear so many people talking about using reward based training with their dogs and seeing lots of beautiful bonds between dogs and owners.

The array of breeds that we met was incredible, from deerhounds to dachshunds and everything in between! It was also fantastic to see so many polite and sociable dogs enjoying making new doggy friends throughout the weekend.

We had lots of interest in our training classes and had some new students sign up. We really can’t wait to see them again and get started with training! So why not join in the fun? Call us on 01162 836458 or email leicsdogschool@dogstrust.org.uk to sign on to classes.
