Rehabilitation work in our centre
By Rachel Casey | rehabilitation, rehoming
At each of our 20 rehoming centres there is at least one training and behaviour advisor (TBA), an assistant TBA and one or more dog trainers to help with rehabilitation. The TBA is responsible for assessing each dog which arrives at the centre, and develop an appropriate programme of enrichment, care and behaviour modification. They also train the staff in the centre on carrying out rehabilitation work with the dogs, and provide life-long behavioural support to any dog which is homed.
The behaviour teams work with a range of problems, including dogs which are worried by other dogs or people, and those who find it difficult to be left alone. For each dog and problem there is a unique behaviour modification programme developed. These programmes always using positive reward based training to help dogs feel more confident.
